Jane Austen and Lichfield's Georgian Writers - Walking Tour
To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Jane Austen, take a walking tour of Lichfield with costumed guide and local historian Jonathan Oates. Austen came to Lichfield in the early 1800s to see a cousin and visited a famous local hotel, preferring it to another due to a particular food type! This tour will tell you about Austen's visit and will also feature a number of Lichfield's Georgian writers, from well known names such as Samuel Johnson; Erasmus Darwin; David Garrick and George Farquhar to lesser known literary figures in Lichfield from the 18th century. The gentle walking tour takes you round Lichfield's historic city centre streets, lasts one and a half hours and booking is essential.
