This is not a photograph

‘This is not a photograph’ is a free exhibition of contemporary photography from THECOLLECTIVE.PHOTOS on show in The Hub Gallery from 27 July to 21 August.
Four Lichfield based photographers, who have inspired and supported each other’s work for many years, have come together as THECOLLECTIVE to showcase their photography in their first joint exhibition. With a diverse range of experience, approach and perspective, their styles range from abstract to portraiture, from still-life to land/cityscape.
In a world saturated with pictures where smartphones empower anyone to create technically good images, it’s time to ask what makes a photograph stand out? As the title suggests, THECOLLECTIVE believe an image’s power lies in its connection with the viewer: in that sense these are not photographs – they are stories written in light and pinned to a wall in the hope of provoking a response.
THECOLLECTIVE says: "We sincerely hope this exhibition will entertain you, provoke you and maybe even inspire your inner photographer. If nothing else, we invite you to pause, take a breath, feel the calm of the fabulous venue that is The Hub and consider the world through a different lens (and maybe treat yourself to one of the best coffees in Lichfield!)"
Hub Gallery curator, Helen Hicks says: "THECOLLECTIVE.PHOTOS match The Hub’s outlook perfectly. Fresh thinking and inclusive of different approaches, like many of our events, they encourage us to question our existing notions. I for one cannot wait to see what emotions these captivating images stir up... whilst sipping my artisan coffee of course!"
The Gallery is open Tues – Sat, 9.30 – 3 pm. All of the artworks are available to buy from The Hub 01543 414749. The exhibition runs from July 27 – Aug.21.
