There’s plenty to help you enjoy Christmas week at Lichfield Cathedral with services and celebrations to suit the whole family.
This year the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols telling the story of the promise of the birth of Jesus with music by the cathedral choir will be on Sunday December 23 at 6pm and Monday December 24 at 6pm.
Also on Christmas Eve at 3pm will be the Family Crib Service, a celebration of Christmas in drama and song. You are encouraged to come dressed as a character from the nativity story - Mary, Joseph, Angels, Shepherds and Wise Men... or even stable animals
As midnight approaches we come together for the First Eucharist of Christmas to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The service is led by the Dean with a sermon given by the Bishop of Lichfield and singing led by Cathedral Chamber Choir. The service starts at 11.30pm with carols sung from 11pm. Please note incense will be used in this service. Everyone is welcome at all of these services which are FREE to attend. Please arrive early to ensure your seats.
On Christmas Day Choral Eucharist service to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ will be at 11am in a service is led by the Bishop of Lichfield, with a sermon given by the Dean and singing led by the Cathedral Choir.
The celebration of Christmas Day continues at 3pm as we join together for a service of Evening Prayer. The service is led by the Canons in Residence and includes some seasonal hymns.
Boxing Day sees the Cloth for the Cradle service at 3pm. This is a congregational service with the ceremony of the Light of the Nativity and traditional carols.
