The George Hotel in Bird Street, Lichfield city centre welcomed their new General Manager, Alan Tracey to the team in December 2021.
The family-owned hotel is a former 18th century coaching inn and is located in the heart of the city. It has been owned by the Webb family for since 2000 and has 45 bedrooms, a large banqueting suite for meetings and weddings, a stylish restaurant and a busy lounge bar that is a popular spot for lunch, afternoon tea and drinks.
Alan has worked in the hospitality industry for many years and has previously worked at Birmingham Hippodrome as the Catering Manager and also some well-known hotel brands including Crown Plaza, Radisson and Hilton. Alan’s wealth of experience was certainly put in to practice when he joined the team just before Christmas. Always a busy time so he had to hit the ground running.
He commented: “Joining the business during the busiest time of the year was definitely an experience, but it was a great chance to get stuck in and meet many of the regular guests”.
Outside work one of Alan’s hobbies is flying. In fact, he started working in hospitality part time to help fund his dream of becoming a pilot. He still is planning to get his private license at some point and enjoys taking flying lessons when he can.
Alan’s first plans for the Lichfield city centre hotel include refurbishing the bedrooms and public areas and relaunching Darwin’s restaurant.
He has already started making some changes too – with the Lounge Bar now being a dog friendly venue. “As a dog owner myself I wanted to make The George a welcoming place for dogs in the city centre, so we now allow well-behaved dogs on a lead in our Lounge Bar. For those who wish to dine in a dog free environment, guests are more than welcome to dine in the restaurant.”
