Ain’t Misbehavin with 52 Skidoo

Join The Hub at St Mary's in the forgotten era of the Speakeasy, Prohibition Tin Pan Alley, New York Rent Parties, Harlem Stride Piano and Hot Jazz as 52 Skidoo turn back the clock to play a dazzling set of 20’s and 30’s American music.

An unlikely collection of drunks, gamblers, misfits and outlaws, 52 Skidoo are a three-piece Harlem swing band that have turned back the clock to play a dazzling set of vintage American music. Classic favourites like ‘Ain’t Misbehavin‘, ‘The Joint is Jumpin’ and ‘Your Feet’s Too Big’ are carefully woven into well-known hits like ‘Jeepers Creepers’, ‘Darktown Strutters Ball’ and ‘I Ain’t Got Nobody’ to create an authentic 1920/30’s Harlem party atmosphere.

The band’s pianist, Henry ‘J.J.’ Botham, (A.K.A. ‘Double J’) is known for his stunning segue skills, tickling and hollering. Howard ‘Dancing Bear’ Jacobs is Skidoo’s percussionist, clarinetist and chief noise expert. Tommy Valentine joined the band as vocalist and guitarist primarily to help clear his gambling debts.

In the words of Fats Waller, "Mercy, that's a whole lotta' meat and potato mama!"

Henry ‘J.J.’Botham from 52 Skidoo says: "The Joint is Jumpin’! 52 Skidoo are a 3 piece Harlem Swing band that perform their hit show ‘The Joint is Jumpin’ in theatres across the UK. The show is set in 1920’s Harlem and consists of live performances of authentic music from the era carefully woven into a story that encompasses engaging characters, comedy, dance and poetry."

Get tickets for the show on 14 May at 8pm for £18 online or pop in and see the team at The Hub.
