Visit Lichfield’s social media is top notch!

Out of the tourism bodies in the West Midlands, Visit Lichfield came in second place in the English Tourism Social Media Index.

Lichfield District Council is celebrating after receiving the West Midlands runner up award for its Visit Lichfield social media channels.

Visit Lichfield runs and, regularly posting and tweeting about all the events and attractions across Lichfield District.

In the West Midlands’ league table, Visit Lichfield has climbed three places since 2016, up to second place from fifth, with Destination Staffordshire coming in first place. In the English league table overall, Visit Lincoln came in the top spot. Visit Lichfield was ranked 31 out of a total 133 tourism bodies included in the index.

The index, produced by social media agency Umpf in association with TripAdvisor Rentals, was assembled by measuring the social media performance of each tourism body based on an algorithm, calculated by a team of people. 

The data was then analysed by a panel of three industry judges who presided over the final results, creating a league table which benchmarks social media success among England’s tourism bodies.

Councillor Ian Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Environment & Development Services, said: “We’re thrilled to have achieved the runner up spot in the West Midlands for our social media promotions. It is testament to our small but hard working Visit Lichfield team and to Lichfield District’s fabulous tourism offer.

“It is amazing to think that we ranked higher than Birmingham, Shakespeare’s England, Shropshire, Devon, York, Canterbury, Cambridge and many more fantastic places to visit, so we are very proud.

“Congratulations to Destination Staffordshire on scooping the top spot in the West Midlands. It’s great that a tourism body, which also covers Lichfield District, came in first place.”
