Fri, 27/05/2016 - 17:15

After a break of 4 years the famous Lichfield Dash, the Chariots of Fire inspired race against the 12 noon chimes of Lichfield Cathedral is back on Saturday August 20th from 10am onwards round Cathedral Close.

Kevin Wilson Director of organisers KP Events and dash founder in 1998 is thrilled to have the event back: " The Dash was last held when the Olympic Torch came to Lichfield in 2012 and due to various circumstances it's had a break but in the year of the Rio Games we felt it right to bring it back and we're hugely excited to see it back in its spiritual home, Lichfield Cathedral"

Making it possible are new sponsors St Johns House in Lichfield and owner Dan Ralley is delighted to be on hand to help bring the Dash back to Lichfield;

" I'm so excited to be associated with bringing such an exciting and unique sporting event back to my home city where I now live and work. I am also thrilled  it's coming back in Olympic year 2016 when the previous dash 4 years ago graced Lichfield's welcome to the Olympic Torch in 2012. Brilliant to have it back for now and hopefully going forward !! "

Previous winners of the Dash have been GB international athletes James Thie and Jimmy Watkins and the last dash winner in 2012 James Whitehouse of Birchfield Harriers also won in 2010 and lost in near dead heat to fellow Birchfield Harrier. Elliot Giles in 2011.

"It would be fantastic if we could get Whitehouse and Giles to a dash shootout this year." added Wilson. "You can bet your life that's what we'll be aiming for!"

The supporting programme on the day starts at 10am as a traffic free Close is turned into a running track, a cycling track and even a wheelchair track in the build up to the main dash at 12 noon. There will be children's races and relays from under 7's to under 15's , adult mile races and adult relays.

All monies raised on the day will be donated to The Lords Taverners charity.
