Lichfield Roots & Folk Festival (Friday 21 - Sunday 23 October 2011) – The best line up yet!

Now in it’s third year The Lichfield Roots and Folk Festival taking place once again at the Lichfield the Guildhall continues to expand with the best and most varied line up so far!

Kicking of the event on Friday evening around 7.30pm will be the talented Lichfield-based blues musician “Tom Woodman” performing a solo spot in support of headliners the wonderful Kan featuring former “Flook” flautist and whistle player Brian Finnegan and “Lau” fiddler Aidan O’Rourke.

Saturday begin with a show-case of local talent commencing around 12.30pm. First up are “The Reel Hot Ceilidh Peppers” new additions to the line-up, followed by acoustic duos “Barricades Rise” and “Cruel-Folk” and finally local trio “Enchanté”. The afternoon session is then rounded by performances from three nationally and internationally recognised acts: “Maggie Boyle” who sung the title track from the film “Patriot Games”, BBC Folk Awards nominee “Martha Tilston” (daughter of folk-legend Steve Tilston and step-daughter of Maggie Boyle), and finally Dorset-based folk rockers “State of Undress”.   

“State of Undress return around 7.30pm for a second set to open up the evening session before the evening is rounded off by “Dark Horses” a wonderful collaboration between two of the most popular performers on the UK folk-scene musician and comedian Keith Donnelly and singer Flossie Malavialle.

On Sunday morning downstairs in the Guild Room (10am until 1pm) there will be an opportunity for budding musicians and performers to take part in a “Folk Band Workshop” lead by Paloma Trigas (Urban Folk Quartet) with participants being given the chase to perform later in the finale of the afternoon session with Wildfire Folk!

The Sunday afternoon session kicks off upstairs in the Guildhall around 12.30pm with “Lichfield Lighthouse Company’s Sea Shanties Workshop”, next up is the uniquely talented “Ash Mandrake”, followed by “The Newcombers” (featuring new Lichfield Art’s Director Chris Newcombe and his wife Kathryn), the UK-based Australian virtuoso guitarist/singer-songwriter “Derrin Nauendorf”, talent young local trio “Bryony, Dan and Rosie” (from The Offbeat) and finally a performance by the fantastic Lichfield based “Wildfire Folk” who are rapidly gaining a reputation on the folk-scene.  

The Sunday evening session opens around 7.30pm with a set from popular local folk band “Chase Mist”, followed by a second set from “Derrin Nauendorf” before the festival is brought to a close by band with a big reputation on the UK festival circuit and one of the best live acts around the sensational “3 Daft Monkeys”.
