Celebrate all things heritage in Lichfield this September with a foodie themed line-up of tours, poetry performances, delicious afternoon tea and celebrations for Samuel Johnson’s birthday.

On Saturday 18 SeptemberSamuel Johnson Statue

Celebrate Samuel Johnson’s 312th Birthday at the place where he was born! The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum will be hosting a series of free activities for visitors to enjoy. These will include poetry and storytelling inspired by food, and family craft activities for all to enjoy. An annual civic ceremony will also take place on Lichfield’s historic Market Square from midday. Free slices of cake are available for visitors while stocks last!

You can also explore Lichfield’s historic Guildhall Prison Cells and it’s many stories which span across centuries.

Join an outdoor (socially distanced) afternoon tea at The Bishops Palace, to be addressed by the Johnson Society's new President, Posy Simmonds, celebrated Guardian cartoonist.  

On Sunday 19 September

Learn more about the use of herbs in modern and 18th century cooking in the tranquil herb garden at Erasmus Darwin House. Tickets are free, booking recommended.

Take a Lichfield city centre walking tour around restaurants past and present with Georgian Jono, finishing with a Georgian Afternoon Tea at the Bureau Bar.
