Great Outdoors Top five things to do outdoors this Easter holiday

As we continue to move through the Government's roadmap to leaving lockdown with changes to how many people can meet outdoors we will have the opportunity to plan fun activities for the family to enjoy this Easter and throughout April.

Take some time to rediscover the fun of a family day outside over the break. Our top five things to do in Lichfield District during the Easter holiday should help you do just that.

Please remember to keep up to date with the latest Government guidance here and be aware of any changes to planned dates or guidelines as well as remaining in your local area.

In addition, please check directly with any venues or event providers outlined below as dates, timings, and booking availability may be subject to change.

Augment your reality at the National Memorial Arboretum

The National Memorial has launched its ARboretum Augmented Reality Experience just in time for the Easter break for pre-booked guests to bring the Arboretum to life and learn about Remembrance, teamwork and reflection in a brand new and exciting way.

With the new app, visitors will be led to eight locations around the Arboretum, where an augmented reality character will appear and guide users through fun family activities to learn about some of the people who have supported the country through the pandemic.

This activity is suitable for people aged 7+ when accompanied by an adult.

You can also find the Stick Man Trail when you book a visit at the Arboretum. Young visitors will enjoy joining Stick Man on his journey back to the family tree. You can pick up a free copy of the self-led trail from the Welcome Desk when you arrive.

Go wild at Drayton Manor

At the time of writing, everything is all set for Drayton Manor Resort to re-open its gates on April 12. We don't know about you but we're excited.

With over 100 rides, Europe's only Thomas land and a 15-acre zoo there is zero chance of Easter holiday boredom. The resort has put a range of Covid safety measures in place to protect visitors, and all food outlets will be open offering a take-away-only service.

If you book your ticket in advance online you can enjoy 25% off on the day prices. Here's where you can book.

Get active

The Active Lichfield team has put together an amazing programme of holiday fun activities for anyone who is itching to get out in the fresh air and get moving!

You can book to enjoy a family disc golf session, sucker archery or a boxercise taster session over the Easter break in one of Lichfield's parks on the Active Lichfield website here.

This is all going on alongside the usual programme of Active Lichfield activity, like Getin2it. This programme of activities that runs year-round offers everything from low-cost sport, dance and leisure sessions for 9 to 25-year-olds, through to helping people with disabilities to access the leisure facilities and classes.

As if that isn't enough, the team are adding a load of new well-being activities for people of all ages throughout April! Check them out here.

Follow a city trail

The Visit Lichfield Minster Duck Trail is great for children, helping them find out all about the fascinating and sometimes horrible history behind our fantastic city. Full of puzzles and games, Minster Duck will keep little ones entertained.

The trail is easy to follow for young and old and takes between 1 - 2 hours to complete. You can download the trail from our website here.

After April 12 you will also be able to pick up a printed copy from our Visitor Information Centre in St Mary's in the city centre.

If this is the sort of fun your little ones enjoy then you should also check out the Swinfen Broun brass rubbing trail, which leads you through Beacon Park and across to Minster Pool, solving missions and completing eight brass rubbings along the way.

Look out for the brass rubbings on metal posts throughout Beacon Park and the final plaque attached to the railings of Minster Pool. Find out more about how to get the trail booklet here.

Go crazy in Beacon Park

Speaking of Beacon Park, much of the park?s top play areas are open to enjoy again. This includes the golf course, crazy golf, foot and disc golf. So you'll be able to get out and get moving again!

As if that wasn't enough, the parks team has put together a bunch of fun activities and games you can try in your group or six or two households when you're in the park. Why not have a game of tree-line bingo or go bug hunting? Find inspiration here.
