Johnson Walkers set off for London
02/03/2009
On the 2nd March 1737 Samuel Johnson and his pupil David Garrick set off for London to seek fame and fortune. This morning, exactly 272 years later, Dr Nicholas Cambridge and Professor Peter Martin have left Lichfield to re-enact the walk in aid of the National Literacy Trust. The 165 mile walk will take them along canal towpaths to London, where they are due to arrive 11 days after departure. You can follow their progress on the Lichfield 2009 website (external link) or on the Johnson Walkers Twitter page (external link)
