Children's Trail chosen as top family day out

05/08/2009

Visit Lichfield is celebrating after hearing the news that our Children's Trail has been included in Little Chef's 51 Great Family Days Out Guide. The Trail guides youngsters and their families around Lichfield's historic city and has beaten off stiff competition from the UK's top visitor attractions to be included in the guide.

The guide came about following research that showed British families were not spending enough quality time together. Public nominations flooded in, with families sharing their personal favourites, including both high profile attractions and places off the beaten track.

The final top 51 - chosen to celebrate 51 years of Little Chef restaurants - was based on the number of nominations, the accessibility, cost and appeal to a family group. The guide includes something for everyone with excursions including well known destinations such as Alton Towers, Legoland and London Zoo, plus hidden gems such as Lichfield's very own Children's Trail!

Tom Hutton, one of the authors of a Rough Guide to Britain, said: "The final 51 is an eclectic mix of days out demonstrating the range of fascinating things to do and beautiful places to visit in the UK. It's great that the public hasn't overlooked the less obvious attractions either."

Councillor David S. Smith, Leader of Lichfield District Council, added: "Our Children's Trail trakes youngsters on a quick tour of the city, stopping at interesting buildings and historic sites on the way. At each stop, Minster the Duck asks questions so that children can find out more about the city's fascinating past. We are all delighted it has been voted one of the top 51 days out. It's a popular trail and we know parents also enjoy finding out about Lichfield along with their children."

The 51 Days Out guide can be downloaded from the Little Chef's website (external website) and can also be picked up from their restaurants.

The Children's Trail is available from the award winning Tourist Information Centre in the Lichfield Garrick and costs 60p per trail. After completing the trail children get to claim a prize.
