Samuel Johnson Birthplace

On Saturday 28th April the Samuel Johnson Birthplace will be holding a fascinating talk and workshop session. Sue Bray from the Museum team will be exploring Johnson’s attitude to women, and his relationship with some of the key women in his life and 18th century culture. The session will look beyond some of the views from Johnson that are often mis-quoted or taken out of context, and present a much more balanced picture of the famous Lichfeldian. The workshop will also include a behind-the-scenes look at items from the Museum’s library and archive collections, including works by female writers, rare inscribed books and letters, including work by Lichfield Poet Anna Seward, and documents relating to the Johnson family. Tickets for the 2pm event cost £4 and advance booking is recommended. Contact the Museum on 01543 264 972, by email to sjmuseum@lichfield.gov.uk or in person at the Museum reception, open daily from 10.30am – 4.30pm, to book.
