Lichfield is fast becoming known as Staffordshire's Festival City
No matter what time of year you visit, there's something to suit all tastes. If you see anything you particularly fancy, we recommend booking in advance. Christmas in Lichfield
Christmas is almost here, and Lichfield is the place to be for some fab festive events! From the Christmas Lights switch-on in the city centre to Santa Specials at Chasewater Railway through to carol concerts at the Cathedral, there's bound to be something for you to enjoy.

Countryside Events
Lichfield District Council's Countryside team brings you some exciting events this autumn:
Heathland Restoration (16th November)
Help restore the wet heathland by clearing grass mounds and seeding with cut heather at Pipehill Heathlands Common. Click here for more information.
Cleaning up Christian Fields (7th December)
Help the Burton Conservation Volunteers and the Countryside Team complete essential clean-up works on Christian Fields, off Eastern Avenue. Click here for more information.

Lichfield 2009
2009 is set to be the year of years in Lichfield! 2009 sees the 300th anniversary of Samuel Johnson's birth, widely known as the father of the dictionary. 2009 also sees the bicentenary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his seminal work ‘On the origin of Species'. To celebrate this Lichfield will be alive with events, festivals, concerts, star-studded shows, walks, talks and art.
Festivities will start on the 28th of February with 'An Evening with John Sergeant' in the Lichfield Garrick. Click here for more celebration festivities. More information will be confirmed at a later date.

Winter Beer and Wine Festival
Come to the Guildhall on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of February between noon and 11pm to sample some fine wines and even finer beers! The Lichfield Winter Beer & Wine Festival, organised by Lichfield Arts, brings over 35 real ales from local micro and regional breweries to the city, splendid German and Belgian draft beers, traditional ciders and a wide range of bottled beer. Not so keen on beer? Don't worry, there will also be over 20 wines, from Staffordshire to South African produce.
Entry £1 before 5.30pm, £1.50 after 5.30pm on Friday and £2.50 after 5.30pm on Saturday night. Saturday night will include music. Click here for more information

Lichfield Greenhill Bower
Come along to Beacon Park and help celebrate this historic festival on Monday 25th May. Follow the Bower procession to Beacon Park and then join in the fun with stalls, arena events and a host of attractions. Click here for more information

Shakespeare in the Park
The Italian Gardens at Maple Hayes Hall will be transformed into an outdoor theatre from 17 to 20 June for a production of Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Real Ale Jazz & Blues Festival
Keep the 25th - 28th of June 2009 free to attend the popular Real Ale Jazz & Blues Festival, organised by Lichfield Arts. From blues to big band through to swing and contemporary music, there's something to suit all tastes. And, with over 30 real ales you're sure to enjoy your evening, day or weekend.

Lichfield Mysteries 2009
If you visit in July 2009, make sure you don't miss out on the Lichfield Mysteries, one of Europe's largest community arts event. Over 100 actors, musicians and entertainers will perform 21 tales of love, lust, temptation, greed, betrayal and forgiveness. Fuse - The Event in a Tent
Come to Beacon Park between 10th - 12th July for Fuse - the Event in a Tent. A free community arts event for all ages to enjoy a weekend of music, workshops, crafts, theatre, storytelling, comedy, food stalls and bar plus fantastic outdoor shows.

The Lichfield Festival
The Lichfield Festival will be back between the 9th and 19th of July 2009. This world renowned festival is centred around Lichfield Cathedral but takes in venues elsewhere in the city and beyond.
From classical music to contemporary dance and from drama to films, there is something on offer for everyone to enjoy. The full programme will be announced in April 2009.
Part of the festival is a Georgian Market on the 11th of July and Festival Fireworks on the 18th of July. Click here for more information.

Proms in the Park
Dig out your Union Jack and take your picnic along to the free Proms in the Park to enjoy a family evening of musical entertainment and fireworks.

Lichfield Heritage Weekend & Samuel Johnson's 300th Birthday
If you love history and heritage, come to Lichfield on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September for our Heritage Weekend, where all the city attractions open their doors for free and you can find out little know facts about Lichfield and it's famous residents such as Samuel Johnson and Erasmus Darwin.
Saturday 19 September will also see the 300th birthday celebrations of dr Samuel Johnson with a traditional procession in the Market Square.
