Lichfield Photographer to exhibit at arts festival in French Twin Town
Wed, 11/05/2011 - 15:48
A local photographer will be exhibiting his photographs in May in Lichfield’s French twin town of Sainte Foy-lès-Lyon at their Art Exhibition, which is just one of the many events taking place during their 10 day biennial European Festival. This festival has always included music and dance, drama, theatre and cinema, but for the first time this year, an Art Exhibition is being held in the Espace Culturel Jean Salles, a prestigious exhibition venue close to the Town Hall.
David Keith Jones, who lives in Lichfield, is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Well known for his African photography, he has published two photographic books, many thousands of calendars and has sold 3 million of his own postcards. From his stock library of 120,000 photographs, taken on his travels in Africa and Europe, he now has over 10,000 images online which are published worldwide in books, magazines, calendars and newspapers. David responded enthusiastically to the invitation from Sainte Foy, and he and his Italian wife Carla are looking forward to staying with their French host family, and to meeting the other artists at the exhibition, who come from a number of different European towns, including Lichfield’s twin town of Limburg an der Lahn in Germany.
David will be taking 12 photographs, which he has carefully selected to fit with the Exhibition’s theme ‘Vision of Europe; tradition and culture’. Four were taken in France, three in Spain, three in Italy, one in Germany, and not to be forgotten, one is of Lichfield Cathedral with the Festival Market. The Art Exhibition will be open for viewing during the afternoons; during the rest of the day, David and his wife will enjoy exploring Sainte Foy and the surrounding area, including visiting the famous art galleries in nearby Lyon. He’s sure to have his camera with him!
