Fall in love with Lichfield on a Valentine’s Special walking tour

Tuesday January 31 2017

An atmospheric walking tour featuring romantic tales from times gone by.

Visit Lichfield is inviting everyone to go on a Valentine’s Special walking tour on Sunday 5 February at 2pm.

The guided tour is not exclusive to couples, so why not bring your friends or family for an entertaining afternoon out?

Enjoy romantic anecdotes told by a knowledgeable Green Badge Guide, including stories of Patience Williams, a servant girl who married into grandeur, or Mrs Thrale and her Italian musician, and David Garrick and his Viennese Opera Singer, or George Farquhar and his scheming wife.

The 90-minute tour finishes in style with a cream tea at Erasmus Darwin House.

Councillor Helen Fisher, Cabinet Member for Tourism & Communications at Lichfield District Council, said: “Going on a guided tour is fantastic way to find out about local history and to get a new appreciation of the streets and buildings you may pass all the time.

“Lichfield has been home to many fascinating characters over the years, and finding out more about their colourful love lives is a novel way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, whether you go as a couple, with friends or on your own.”

The tour costs £7.25, which includes a cream tea. You can book in person at Tourist Information at St Mary’s in the Market Square or by calling the team on 01543 256611.

There are lots more city walking tours on offer this spring and summer, including the children’s Bloodthirsty Lichfield tour, Darwin and Lunarticks, Civil War, Georgian Gems, Routes and Roots, Heritage and History and a tour of Alrewas Village.
