Lichfield District Council is busy putting the finishing touches to its free end of summer outdoor concert set to take place tomorrow evening, Saturday 1 September.

The City of Lichfield Concert Band will kick off the musical entertainment from 6pm with a selection of popular classic and modern show tunes, from ABBA and The Beatles, through to hits from the James Bond films.

This will lead up to the main concert, when Touch FM broadcaster, Mark O'Sullivan, and local TV personality, Jane Dayus-Hinch, will take to the stage at 7.30pm to introduce The British Police Symphony Orchestra's musical programme.

To celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, this year's main concert has a Great British theme and will include: Coates' Dambusters March, Jupiter from Elgar's The Planets and Crown Imperial from Walton's Coronation March.

Soprano Joanne Mayling and Tenor Mitesh Khatri will be in fine voice singing songs from My Fair Lady, HMS Pinafore, as well as the much-loved proms anthems, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and more.

The night will end with a rousing song of Land of Hope and Glory (Pomp & Circumstance No.1) to fireworks overhead.

The late summer event will also feature activities for children, hot food and drink stalls and a proms shop where concert-goers can stock up on their patriotic flags and hats. To make sure everyone can enjoy proms safely, barbeques will not be allowed.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: "With the Jubilee and London 2012, this is such a special year for Great Britain. We wanted to reflect this fantastic patriotic feeling in our musical programme, which is why military marches feature so prominently this year, along with all the customary proms anthems. Lichfield Proms is a fantastic way to end the summer, so don't forget to join us on Saturday!"

Lichfield Proms could not happen without the support of local businesses and individuals who continue to support the ever popular event. Sponsors backing Lichfield Proms 2012 include: Midlands Co-operative, Swinfen Broun Charitable Trust, Secret Garden, Go Mobile Ltd, Thornton Claverley IFA Ltd, Wilcox Refinishers, Chandlers, Chandlers Lakeside Bistro, Moseleys Solicitors, PJS Autos, Beacon Street Garage, Lichfield Gazette, Lichfield Chamber of Trade & Commerce, Touch FM, Lichfield City Council and Staffordshire County Councillors, Steve Tranter, Janet Eagland, and Terry Finn through the Members' Initiative Fund.
