Erasmus Darwin, Samuel Johnson & the BBC!

Thursday May 26 2016

May saw an influx of publicity for Lichfield, the Lunar Society and Erasmus Darwin in the most unusual way!

The daytime soap Doctors saw one of its key characters, Al, take a pilgrimage to Lichfield and there is a wonderful scene at Darwin House, where he professes to smell a ‘distinct whiff of genius in the air’! View on BBC iPlayer.

Radio 4 took a more high-brow view of the importance of Lichfield in the Age of Enlightenment, as part of their serious entitled ‘England - Made in the Middle’. Broadcaster, Helen Castor, was joined by guests Henry Hitchings talking about Erasmus Darwin and Jo Wilson, from the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum. Listen to broadcast on the BBC website.
